For the first time, I have decided to blog. I will dedicate this blog to the things that I love most. Reading and writing. I am working on a full length novel – that is also something new for me. I started it as a NaNo project and I have fallen in love with the concept so much that I decided that I needed to clean it up and make it work.
I have found a Beta reader, a co-worker of mine who doesn’t really have the up and up on grammar and sentence structure. I chose her for the fact that I knew she wouldn’t concern herself with the nitpick details and would simply tell me what she thought about the plot. I needed that kind of reader.
I have Critique Circle for the overall critique that I am looking for and the feedback that I need on the writing and the structure and such. If I’m being selfish, its true, I like having someone gush over my story itself, tell me that I’m awesome. Its a motivator.
It’s all about keeping things in perspective. I know the writing needs some work, I know the plot needs tweaking, but to have someone tell me that the concept is awesome and that they are enjoying the story, that’s sometimes a good way to keep on pushing. Besides, now that I have let her read the first parts of the story, she begs me to finish the rest, so that she has more to read.
This is my challenge. Finish the novel. My first challenge that I have ever set for myself. Finish the novel. I’m excited to feel motivated, to know that I will get this done this time. I have so many half written novels on my shelves and this one – I will actually accomplish.
